If you’re trying to grow your Instagram account, you’ve probably asked yourself: How often should I post? According to a recent study by Buffer, the simple answer is — the more, the better.
Buffer, a social media management platform, analysed over 2 million posts from 100,000 Instagram accounts. They wanted to see how often people were posting and how that affected their results, like reach (how many people see your posts) and engagement (likes, comments, shares, etc.).
So, what did they find?
The research showed that accounts posting between 3 and 5 times a week saw more than double the follower growth compared to those posting less often. If you post 6 to 9 times a week or even more, your follower growth can increase even further.
It’s important to know that this study focused only on Instagram feed posts — that means photos, videos (like Reels), and carousels (multi-image posts). It didn’t include Instagram Stories.
More Posts = More Growth
The main takeaway is this: posting more often helps you grow. This makes sense — the more content you share, the more chances people have to see and engage with it. You’re simply increasing your odds of being seen in places like the main feed, the Reels feed, or even Instagram’s Explore page.
Buffer found that when users posted 3 to 5 times a week, each post had, on average, a 12% better reach. That means more people were seeing each individual post. And when people posted 10 times a week or more, that boost increased to 24% per post. That’s a pretty big jump.
So yes — posting more does seem to work.
But It’s Not Just About Quantity
Before you go and plan out two posts a day for the next month, there’s something else to keep in mind: quality matters too.
Buffer warns that while posting often can help, it only works if your content is still good. If you rush to put out more content just for the sake of it, the quality may drop — and your audience might lose interest. In fact, low-quality posts can do more harm than good, especially if they feel repetitive, spammy, or irrelevant.
So the key is to find a balance. Post as often as you can — without letting your content suffer.
Use Tools to Help
If you’re worried about the extra workload, the good news is that there are plenty of tools out there to help. AI writing tools, scheduling platforms, and template apps can make it quicker and easier to create posts without spending hours each day. So if you feel confident using these tools, posting more frequently might not be as time-consuming as it sounds.
Don’t Fear Overposting
One of the other insights from the study is that creators and brands shouldn’t worry about posting too much. As long as your posts are valuable and well made, your audience won’t mind seeing you more often in their feed.
So in short, if you want to grow your Instagram, try to post at least three times a week — and if you can manage more, that’s even better. Just remember: quality content still comes first.
