A New App from Facebook?

Venue – an app that brings people together to experience live events in an interactive way.

What does this mean?

According to Facebook –

“Venue aims to give fans an interactive second screen experience, curated by experts and centred on the pivotal moments of their favorite events. To start, Venue will focus on improving the second screen experiences of sports fans, some of the most passionate fan communities.”

One of the points Facebook makes in their blog is that you’ll be able to watch with well known personalities, current or former, which will host a venue.  They’ll be able to provide commentary, interactive questions and polls, and open up short chats.

The app has been designed with the fan in mind so they’ll be able to split their attention between the event and their phones.

“Venue does this by allowing commentators to create “Moments” — short-lived digital opportunities for fans to connect — whenever they think something memorable or interesting is happening on the track. Fans are notified whenever a new Moment is created so that they can hop in and out of Venue if they want to. With Venue, fans can stop scrolling or searching to find the exact moment everyone is reacting to.”

They’ll be testing this out with NASCAR for fans who are unable to attend races due to COVID-19

“As NASCAR makes its return to action over the coming weeks, Venue will provide users with a unique and exciting way to connect with fellow race fans from around the globe – all from the safety and comfort of their own homes. NASCAR was built on innovation, and we couldn’t be more excited to help a great partner like Facebook’s New Product Experimentation team innovate around new platforms.”

– Tim Clark, SVP and Chief Digital Officer, NASCAR

Venue sounds like a possible good way for fans of an event to connect and share their enthusiasm together, with the added bonus of having their fav personalities host!

The app is currently only available in the US for iOS and Android.

Too messy, too unpredictable, too risky. And guess what, while brands looked away, audiences didn’t. They piled in. And…
