Instagram Adds Watch History – A Game-Changer for Reels Users.

It seems Meta has done it again – taking inspiration from TikTok and adding another new feature to Instagram. This time, it’s something many of us have probably wished for: a Watch History tool.

Late last week, Instagram’s boss, Adam Mosseri, announced that users will now be able to see a record of the videos they’ve watched on the app. If you’ve ever found yourself trying to track down that one hilarious Reel or useful tutorial you forgot to save, this new addition could be a real time-saver.

What Is Instagram Watch History?

In the latest version of Instagram, you’ll now find a brand-new section called “Watch History.” This area shows small thumbnail previews of every video you’ve watched in the app over the last 30 days.

So, say you were watching a cooking Reel that looked amazing but didn’t hit the save button – no problem! You can now scroll through your Watch History and find it again easily.

How It Works

Mosseri explained the update like this:

“If you go to your profile, then open ‘Settings’ and look under ‘Your Activity’, you’ll see a new ‘Watch History’ option. From there, you can view all the Reels you’ve watched, sort them by date, or even filter by a specific account.”

In other words, Instagram is giving you a convenient way to browse through your recent viewing activity. You can sort your Reels from newest to oldest (or the other way round), search by date, or even find content from a particular creator.

There is one small catch, though — the Watch History only goes back 30 days. So, while it’s not quite a full archive of everything you’ve ever watched, it’s still a solid step towards making the app more user-friendly.

Why This Is Useful

Anyone who’s used TikTok will know that it already has a similar feature, and it’s genuinely handy. How often have you come across a video that you loved but didn’t save, only to regret it later when you can’t find it again? Whether it’s a funny clip you wanted to share with a friend, a product you were interested in buying, or a tip you wanted to try – those moments can easily get lost in the endless scroll.

With Watch History, you’ll now be able to retrace your steps and quickly find that forgotten gem. It’s a small update, but one that solves a common frustration for many Instagram users.

What This Means for Instagram

This update isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s a smart move. Instagram Reels are a huge part of the platform, and keeping users engaged is key. By making it easier for people to rediscover videos they’ve already watched, Instagram is encouraging more interaction and more time spent in the app.

It also continues Meta’s trend of borrowing ideas that work well on rival platforms – particularly TikTok. But to be fair, if it improves the user experience, most of us won’t be complaining.

When You’ll Get It

The Watch History feature is rolling out with the latest version of the Instagram app. If you don’t see it yet, make sure your app is updated to the newest release, and it should appear soon under your profile’s “Your Activity” section.

Final Thoughts

At first glance, Watch History might seem like a small addition. But for anyone who’s ever been frustrated by losing track of a video they wanted to revisit, it’s a welcome improvement. It’s another sign that Instagram is paying attention to how people actually use the app — and making it easier to enjoy content your way.
