It’s Oh So Quiet

Instagram has recently announced that it will be launching “Quiet Mode” to help with focus and setting boundaries.

Much like Apple’s Focus mode on the iPhone and iPad, you’ll be able to set specific times when your profile activity status will change to “In quiet mode”. You won’t receive any notifications, and anyone who DMs you will receive an automatic reply.  Once turned off Instagram will send you a summary of what you’ve missed in order to catch up.

“Teens have told us that they sometimes want to take time for themselves and might be looking for more ways to focus at night, while studying, and during school.”

Instagram also went on to say;

“Anyone can use ‘Quiet mode’, but we’ll prompt teens to do so when they spend a specific amount of time on Instagram late at night.”

As someone who is an avid user of Focus mode on the iPhone, I can only say that this is a *really* good thing to come out of Instagram, giving us a bit more control to set boundaries on apps that can feel intrusive.

Quiet mode is currently available to those in the US, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand with plans to make it available in more countries soon.
